Millet seeds are tiny in size, round, and amazingly smooth. When the hulls are separated from the seeds, these tiny empty shells retain their smooth and velvety texture. Unlike buckwheat hulls that are more sturdy and rough, millet hulls feel silky to our touch. Yet although they feel velvety as we touch them, millet hulls are capable of fully supporting the weight of our head and neck without losing their form.
We use only certified organic millet hulls, grown and harvested here in the United States. Like buckwheat hulls, millet hulls contour our neck line and smoothly shift along as we move in our sleep. Once in a while millet hulls will have a slight wheat-like natural scent for 2-3 weeks; the scent then disappears. It is rare but entirely harmless.
Millet hulls are considered hypo-allergenic and do not house dust mites. Millet hulls provide continued solid neck support throughout the night, offer relief from shoulder/neck tightness, and help prevent headaches.
Our millet hulls are 99% dust free. The process of dust ventilation separates 99% of all dust particles, the remaining residue of the millet seeds, and all foreign matter from the hulls. Millet hulls are temperate and do not take on heat in the summer or cold in the winter.
Good quality millet hulls will not break down or disintegrate, even after years of use. However, you might notice after a few years that your pillow feels a bit less high than it did when you first received it. The reason for this slight change in height is that the hulls lose a bit of their elasticity after holding the weight of your head for so many nights. After a few years the hulls lose some of their strength and the filling gives a little.
At that point you just take out a few pounds (maybe half of the millet hull filling) and replace it with fresh millet hulls. This re-fluffs the pillow and makes it good to go for another 3-5 years. There is really no need to replace the entire filling (unless your spouse decided to put the pillow into the washing machine or you left it out in the rain during your last camping trip ...).
You can buy our millet hulls in loose form, to refill old pillows or to simply re-fluff current ones. The hulls are sold in bags of 3 lbs. Our hulls are 100% certified organic, grown and harvested in the US.
